We first met Traveler at the August 2025 auction — far too wild for a place like that, but he kept coming back to his family over and over. He captivated thousands of hearts, and together our community won freedom for him, Eclipse, Atlas, Scout, and little orphan Fig — who has found her forever place right in the middle of his band. They move together, even in stillness. This is what a herd is meant to be.

Four boys — Wallawa, Clearwater, Palouse, and Selway — were gelded with a knife, no anesthesia, no vet. Then hauled from Arizona to Texas in the blistering heat with open wounds to be sold for slaughter. Camas, the mare with them, was so terrified she tried to dig her way out of the kill pen. The Nirvana community rallied and pulled all five to safety. After a long road to healing, they were released into sanctuary. What those terrible experiences did was make them inseparable. They are one of the most tightly bonded families we have ever seen.

We found Serenity and Unity at auction in October 2025 — Serenity was fighting, banging on the walls, pawing at the ground, desperate to get back to her mom. We made sure we didn't leave without them both. When Unity arrived at the sanctuary, she carried a secret nobody knew yet. Baby Serendipity was born into freedom on shaky legs, her family surrounding her from the very first breath. She will never know the horrors of a kill pen. We also rescued the rest of their family band, including brothers Oscar & Oliver. The community chose her name — and it couldn't be more perfect.

The week after Thanksgiving 2025, we got the call: 12 pregnant BLM mustang mares — 8 already with babies at their sides — plus one gelding, their Protector, were set to ship to slaughter in Mexico. We passed the ask to our community. You saved 7 mom & baby pairs first — enough to delay the shipment. Then in the next two days, you secured all 21. Every single one came home to Nirvana. Now the babies born through all that terror are growing big and strong. The mares are wild and free again. They are only alive today because of you.

Charger earned his name the day he charged at a photographer — from over 100 feet away — just for coming too close to his family. That bold, unbreakable spirit never left him. On rescue day in 2023, he evaded the trailer for three hours, busted through two sets of panels, and broke into a neighboring pasture with 20+ horses. Kourtney and her husband drove to Arizona to get him themselves. When they finally got him loaded — a little bay mare ran right in beside him. To this day they are completely inseparable. Charger leads one of the most unique bands at Nirvana: THREE stallions — Charger, Thunder, and Renegade — who all shared leadership of their family in the wild. He is one of the last Alpine Wild Horses pulled from the White Mountains before the entire herd was erased from history forever. His story is the reason this all matters.
