Oscar & Oliver's Story:
This was what we were met with when we arrived at the October 2025 Bowie Auction: a load of completely terrified Reservation Mustangs that had been wild and free out in the Arizona Desert just DAYS before...
We watched as they were processed into the auction to get their blood drawn and their tags glued onto them. Horses this wild don't stand a single chance at a home, no matter how pretty they look to our eyes.... they'd end up with the kill buyer to be shipped to slaughter the week following the auction, almost certainly.
When they got out of the processing chute, we spent time with them in the holding pens and quickly realized... these two are BROTHERS.
Oscar was clearly the younger brother, clinging to Oliver (the older, more wise and cautious brother) for safety and guidance.
We were able to save their lives during the auction...thanks to the incredible Nirvana Family!
When they arrived home to Nirvana, their bond was even more apparent. As they walked side by side, their tails entertwined.
During quarantine they gained weight, grew comfortable in their safety, were gelded... and all the while their bond only grew.
Every day we are reminded of how special it is that they both get to keep their brother, in the peace and freedom of sanctuary, for life.
