Zander's Story:
When we saw Zander at the McLean TX Kill Pen, we knew he was a kind soul who has a troubled past. We didn’t know just how troubled…
A beautiful bay mustang with gorgeous white markings and a good build, Zander fits the bill of a mustang who someone would adopt to train and use for various riding events.
He was sold at the lot as halter broke and possibly saddle trained. When he arrived, he wanted NOTHING to do with people. But, we pulled out the horse cookies, and the patience and kindness….
And with lots of time and love, now he is the sweetest horse. Ever.
When feeding him cookies, we noticed his front teeth are broken. In addition, he has an indented bone in his face near his eye. These things together tell the story of a horse that was badly beaten to try and force training! What a lot of these mustangs endure in man’s quest to “tame them” is incredibly horrid. I will never understand the choice of force over friendship for these sentient animals.
It is an absolute miracle that they are able to forgive and learn to trust & enjoy human interaction after going through such trauma.
We love our Zander, and we are so glad he will never suffer at the hands of a human again!
