Epona's Story:
Epona was posted in the Peabody Kansas kill pen in May 2024. We saw her but with so much expressed interest on her post, we decided to help two bonded Dun mares from the McLean TX kill pen, Magic & Mystery, instead!
A few days before her ship date, she was still there on the lot. Fire Horse Brigade reached out to us to ask if we could offer her sanctuary if they bailed her and got her to us, and of course we could not turn down offering a forever home to this deserving soul!
She arrived home on May 24th, 2024 and calmly stepped off the trailer, taking in her surroundings with peace and a quiet brilliance. Her energy is ethereal and calm, like the still water of a reflection pool at sunset. Her dark dappled bay coloring is a beautiful contrast with the sky!
We decided to put the dun mares in to quarantine with her so that she wouldn't be alone for her quarantine period and that she could already have some friends when she joins the herd. She and Magic bonded immediately and are often seen mutually grooming with one another in the most tender and loving way. It is just so sweet to witness!!
Fire Horse Brigade was drawn to helping Epona as she reminded them of their heart horse whom they lost. They named her Epona in this horse's memory, and in her honor have created a special fund called "Saving Epona" specifically to help with mustangs who find themselves in kill pens with nowhere else to turn. We are honored to offer sanctuary to this incredible horse and be a part of this movement in Epona's honor to help hundreds more mustangs liker her in the years to come!
