From yards away, three mustangs- Mama, Baby, and Buck- graze undisturbed among a field of stunning yellow wildflowers. This is a glimpse of life within a moment of complete peace at the sanctuary.
Mama, Baby, and Buck are Alpine Wild Horses. Their entire herd was wiped out of the Apache-Sitgreaves National forest from 2022-2024 by a US Forest Service hired contractor, Rail Lazy H, who took the horses directly to slaughter auctions or allowed her right hand man (a kill buyer) ship them directly to Mexico for slaughter. Our Alpine Wild Horse rescue mission is near and dear to our hearts and was the first large scale rescue mission we embarked on beginning in the fall of 2022. Nirvana is now home to over 120 rescued Alpine Wild Horses- it is a true safe haven for this historic herd of wild horses that would have otherwise been lost forever.
