The Big Idea
This isn’t a campaign to build fences.
It’s a chance to help save the American Mustang.
The Safe Landing Project is Nirvana Mustang Sanctuary’s vision for a state-of-the-art, 200-acre quarantine and intake facility designed specifically for wild horses rescued from auctions and the slaughter pipeline.
Most quarantine facilities are built around pens.
Ours is being built around freedom.
When newly rescued mustangs arrive at Nirvana, we don’t believe their first experience of safety should be another tiny enclosure. We want them to step into acreage. To find their herd. To breathe. To decompress. To receive exceptional care without asking them to surrender the wildness we’ve fought so hard to save.
“Because every wild horse rescued from the slaughter pipeline deserves one more taste of freedom—even while they’re in quarantine.”
The Property
You’re Looking at
200 Acres of Possibility.
This is the raw land we’re transforming into a landmark sanctuary for America’s wild horses. Watch and imagine what it will become.
What We’re Building
Purpose-Built
for Wild Horses.
The $500,000 build-out will fund the infrastructure required to make the property fully operational—including:
- Pasture & perimeter fencing across 200 acres
- Large shelters designed for wild horse herds
- Gates & pasture systems for safe movement
- Roads & access infrastructure
- Water lines & troughs throughout the property
- Chutes & sweeps designed for low-stress handling
- Fully functional sick barns
- Smaller recovery & treatment pens
- Specialized spaces for daily veterinary care
- Infrastructure to safely receive large groups of newly rescued mustangs
This isn’t temporary infrastructure. We’re building something that can save horses for decades.
Why Now?
America Is
Paying Attention.
A recent New York Times investigation brought national attention to the path some federally protected wild horses have taken after leaving government custody—including horses ultimately entering the slaughter pipeline. Something has shifted. People are talking. They’re angry. And new people are showing up who are ready to do something about it.
Public attention can disappear as quickly as it arrives—
or it can become the beginning of lasting change.
Awareness alone cannot unload a trailer.
Outrage cannot quarantine a newly rescued herd.
A social media post cannot provide water, shelter, veterinary care, or hundreds of acres where rescued mustangs can recover.
Infrastructure can.
Long after today’s headlines disappear, the fences will still be standing.
The water will still be flowing. The shelters will still be there.
Why Nirvana
600+ Horses.
One Promise.
Nirvana Mustang Sanctuary has rescued more than 600 horses—and more than 600 horses currently call Nirvana home. That’s because we do something differently.
Sanctuary for Life.
When Nirvana rescues a wild horse, we make a promise. They aren’t rescued until someone else can take them. They aren’t rehabilitated so they can become someone else’s horse. We become their home—across thousands of acres, in herds, with space, freedom, and lifelong sanctuary. The Safe Landing Project brings that same philosophy to the very first chapter of their life at Nirvana.
What Your Gift Does
Your Gift Builds
Capacity.
And capacity means horses live.
Your gift doesn’t simply buy lumber, pipe, fencing, or water troughs.
Capacity means another trailer can pull through the gates. Another group of frightened mustangs can unload. Another injured horse can receive treatment. Another family can stay together. Another horse can leave the slaughter pipeline behind.
And because the infrastructure remains long after today’s rescue is over, one gift can impact horse after horse after horse.
“That’s the power of building something permanent.”

Generations of Wild Horses
Whose Stories Haven’t Even Begun Yet.
There will be horses who walk onto this property ten years from now whose names we don’t know yet. Mustangs still running wild today whose lives may someday depend on whether a sanctuary has room for them.
You’re building that room.
Help us build it. Help us preserve the wild.
