These are America's Wild Horses who are currently facing the cruelty of slaughter. If we can't help them in time… they have no chance of surviving this.
Why Do These Horses Need Help?!
Over 20,000 horses ship to slaughter every single year. Wild horses. Old horses. Lame horses. Injured horses. The horses no one wanted to give a chance. That's where Nirvana Mustang Sanctuary comes in.
Right now, the US/Mexico border is closed to horse slaughter exports due to a parasite outbreak. That might sound like good news — but here's the reality: America's wild horses are still shipping to Canada for slaughter, and the horses sold to ship to Mexico are now stuck in kill pens — feedlots filled with cramped pens, disease, and not enough hay to go around. Many have been stuck there since June 2026. Months on end with no hope in sight.
There are mom and baby pairs. Groups of bonded BLM mustangs. Whole families. Suffering inside these lots right now.
For our October Rescue Mission, we are going inside the kill pen owned by the largest exporter of US horses into Mexico for slaughter. This kill pen also hosts a horse auction once a month, and the kill buyer bids on every single horse no one else wants.
We will BE THERE — sharing their stories with you and, with your help, bringing home as many wild horses as we can. Our goal is 40 horses home and safe.
This mission is bigger than right now. The legislators still on the fence about the SAFE Act — which would permanently ban the export of American horses for slaughter — are asking: “If slaughter is banned, where do these horses go?” We are the answer. This rescue proves it.
