Rhiannon's Story:
Rhiannon is a mustang mare who was rounded up from her wild home by the Bureau of Land Management. She was then adopted, and found herself dumped in to the slaughter pipeline along with a whopping 9 other mustangs that were at her adoptive home!
Rhiannon was thin, and had a puncture wound on her shoulder that NEEDED attention!!! She had been running with a stud at her adoptive home.
Rhiannon arrived home to us and with our vet's advice we worked to get her shoulder cleaned and treated. She is very flighty and extremely fearful of humans, so it was quite the task. After evaluating, cleaning, and treating the wound, which had begun the healing process by the time she was listed on the kill pen's page, and then arrived to us, we decided her healing was well underway and leaving Rhiannon be with her peace was better than getting her so very worked up on a regular basis for cleaning a wound that was healing very well naturally.
Two weeks after arriving, poor Rhiannon miscarried a small foal. It was incredibly sad for everyone as she didn't seem to be pregnant. We will always remember the life she carried that she never got to meet! Had she never ended up dumped in the slaughter pipeline we have no doubt that her foal would have made it to term.
Rhiannon joined our herd in February 2025 and was a stunning sight to see take off and RUN! She has the most beautiful floating gait as she maneuvers around the pasture. We can't wait to see who she forms deep bonds with, and watch her be an incredible auntie to her best friend Rheia's baby.
