Buttercup's Story:
Buttercup was rounded up from High Rock HMA in Nevada. She was adopted in 2007 and titled way back in 2008. Apparently her original owner loved her very very much for many years but unfortunately got sick, leaving this mare in the care of Bluefeather Horse Sanctuary & Misfit Mustangs.
who then ran into financial struggles and dumped three BLM mustangs, Sheila, Geronimo, and Buttercup, along with an entire trailer full of other horses, with an obscure California kill pen destined for slaughter on August 12th, 2024.
This lot usually does not work with the public- they usually just ship all of their horses to Mexico without giving anyone the chance to bail them. Luckily, Auction Horses Rescue was able to convince them to let them post several of the horses at their lot on their page to see if homes could be found instead of shipping them straight to Mexico!
Soon after we started fundraising for their rescue, a dedicated advocate recognized the three of their photos from Bluefeather Horse Sanctuary & Misfit Mustangs page! Sure enough, there were many photos of all three horses on their page. It is thanks to this chance sequence of events that we learned that Bluefeather was still taking in donations for a brand new bigger property for their "sanctuary" all the while dumping their current sanctuary residents with an obscure slaughter pen!! If Auction Horses Rescue wouldn't have posted them, Bluefeather would have never been caught doing this atrocious act!
Sheila, Geronimo, and Buttercup were all bailed from the kill lot by an angel donor's contribution, then went to a local vet to get their coggins and health certificates in order to be able to travel home to Nirvana. They arrived home on August 27th, 2024!
Buttercup takes a while to warm up to new humans, but when she does, she is a complete sweetheart! She is said to be trained to ride, so potentially if she warms up enough, she could be a participant in our veteran and children’s programs!
Buttercup has very unique colored eyes with blue flecks inside of them. She is a short stocky mare with a personality about four times size of her body! She loves slow face rubs and neck scratches. reveling in the touch as her eyelids flutter in the cutest way!
